Computer Lab Aids
Weber State University
maintains open and
discipline-specific
computer labs. Open
labs are funded with
student fee monies and
are managed by
Academic Support
Center & Programs (ASCP).
They are open to all
students and all
departments. These
labs provide students an
ideal opportunity for
employment on campus in
having an opportunity to
be part of a team that
strives to bring
cutting-edge technology
and customer service to
those who need access to
computers and the
Internet.
ASSP is responsible for
the maintenance of
computers, printers,
servers and network
connections within the
labs and installs or
debugs software,
maintains facilities,
provides printing and
other expendable
supplies and provides
on-site lab personnel,
including staff
coordinators and student
aides.
While working with us,
our goal is to help you
gain professional skills
that will follow you
into the workforce.
We hope you will take
advantage of this
working and learning
opportunity we offer.
Hours are flexible and
may include some nights
and weekends.
Software Specialists
Do you know how to do a
mail merge in Word with
data in an Excel
spreadsheet or use a
vector mask in
Photoshop? Software
specialists are
available in the eleven
computer labs across the
Weber and Davis campuses
to help other students
with some of the more
advanced functions of
software used on campus.
As a software specialist
you will improve your
communication and
training skills by
helping other students
while increasing yours
with the software
applications. If you
have advanced knowledge
of a particular software
and like to help people,
then being a software
specialist could be the
job for you. Hours are
flexible and not limited
to days.
Technology Education
Assistants
These students are
employed twenty hours
per week, trained for
quality customer service
and in a wide variety of
software applications
used to enhance faculty
projects and supplement
their classes both
face-to-face and
online. These include:
Word, Excel, PowerPoint,
Access, Web Expression,
Dreamweaver, GroupWise,
Publisher, Project,
FrontPage, PhotoShop,
WordPerfect, Publisher,
Adobe InDesign, Crystal
Reports and other
desktop applications
used on campus
computers.
As a TEA the student
will build mutually
beneficial relationships
with professors and see
the "other end" of the
learning process. They
will also have the
opportunity to improve
technology,
communication and
training skills. It’s a
challenging role, but a
very rewarding one.
TEAs are always in on
the newest technologies
and given access to some
very expensive and
creative programs.
Usually, the work
schedule is pretty
flexible for daytime
hours. These students
are referred by the TBE
program to
jking@weber.edu.
Computing Support
Technical Support
Specialists
Student technicians
assist faculty, staff
and students with
computing issues.
They help resolve
problems, setup and
configure new computers,
and provide technical
phone and walk-in
support at the Computing
Support Service Desk. This is the
most excellent learning
opportunity for those
needing experience with
both hardware and
software issues,
including network
technologies and some
server and database
experience as well. The
hours are mostly
daytime, but flexible.
Computing Support After
Hours Technical Phone
Support
Student technicians
provide after hours
technical phone support
to faculty, staff and
students. This requires
a technical
understanding of Weber
State systems and
services as well as the
ability to troubleshoot
computer and account
issues over the phone. Hours vary,
are flexible and
include nights, weekends
or early mornings.
