The university signature has been designed as a graphic unit with carefully set letterspacing (kerning) and character adjustments (fig. A).

References to the university in text will usually employ neither the signature nor the university mark. When the university title appears in close proximity to the university mark, however, the title should always be presented as the university signature in one of the configurations outlined on page 12.

Shortened terms such as "Weber State" or "Weber" are commonly used in speech and the words "Weber State" may appear over the shield of the athletics mark (page 13, fig. H). However, when the university signature is displayed with the university mark the signature should always bear the complete university title (fig. 4B).

Figures C and D show inappropriate representations of the university signature.

A. “University signature” refers to the university title as shown here in caps and small caps. The design is derived from ITC Stone Serif Semi Bold. Spacing and character proportions have been adjusted for unity and economy. The signature has been drawn as a graphic object and does not exist as simply a “font.”

Avoid simulating or attempting to redraw the signature. Always use original artwork.

B. University mark/signature unit in a centered configuration

C. The university signature should always present the full university title instead of an abbreviation.

D. Open letterspacing and an inappropriate typeface are clues the university signature is not authentic in this example.
