ACADEMIC RANK HELD BY ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS AND NON-TEACHING PERSONNEL | No. 8-3 | Rev. 7-8-93 |
| Date 11-12-80 | |||
OLD VERSION
POLICY
Administrators shall be eligible for academic rank, with all the rights and
privileges of such rank as may be accorded them through the appointment
process. Such administrative officers may acquire rank in their academic
disciplines only upon prior approval of the departmental full-time teaching
faculty. Their administrative functions and titles shall be distinct and
separate from their academic ranks and positions. The removal of any person
from an administrative position shall not impair academic rank in a specific
department or college.
Individuals holding rank in an academic department while serving in non-academic areas shall be permitted to retain their rank provided they meet a
three-quarter-hours-per-year teaching requirement and share in
responsibilities defined by the academic department. The teaching
requirement may be waived on an annual basis by the approval of the academic
department.
When a faculty member moves from a tenure-bearing unit to a non-tenure-bearing unit, but continues to meet the requirements of teaching and department assignments, the rank is retained. Otherwise, academic rank is lost.
