I. DEFINITIONS
A. Transfer Student: Applicants who have attended another college or university, including former Weber State students who have since attended another college or university.
B. Transfer Credit: Credit hours completed at a regionally accepted institution that a student wishes to apply toward the completion of a Weber State University degree.
II. RECEIPT AND EVALUATION OF CREDIT
A. Transcripts must be submitted to the Admissions Office from all previously attended colleges and universities.
B. Transcripts will be reviewed to determine if the sending institution is regionally accredited. Guidelines published by AACRAO (American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers) for accreditation and acceptance of credit are used to determine the appropriate accreditation.
1. If the sending institution is regionally accredited, receipt of the transcript is logged into the student admission file and all credits are entered onto the student's Weber State University transcript.
2. If the sending institution is not regionally accredited, receipt of the transcript is noted on the student's admissions file and the transcript is returned to the student without entering credit onto the Weber State University transcript.
C. Transcript is reviewed to determine if the sending institution is a part of the Utah System of Higher Education (USHE).
1. If the sending institution is a part of the USHE, the credits are evaluated according to the Utah State Board of Regents Policies on transfer credit (R470-R479).
2. If the sending institution is not a part of the USHE, the credits are evaluated according to existing articulation agreements.
a. Previously articulated courses are assigned credit according to those agreements.
b. Previously unarticulated courses are assigned to elective status.
III. REASSIGNMENT OF ELECTIVE CREDIT
A. It is the responsibility of the student to work with a Transfer Adviser and the individual departments to further evaluate elective courses and determine if additional general education or major credit can be awarded
