PETITION FOR ACADEMIC RENEWAL | No. 4-17a | Rev. 6-2-94 |
| Date 1-20-82 | |||
I. POLICY
The Academic Renewal Policy provides an opportunity for students to have
their grade point average recalculated. The recalculated GPA will use all
those courses completed within the last six years and those courses prior to
the six-year period wherein a "C-" or better was obtained.
Guidelines
A. The applicant for academic renewal must be a currently enrolled
undergraduate student or must have been enrolled during the previous
quarter. Students who are not currently enrolled and who cannot obtain
financial aid until their GPA is recalculated using Academic Renewal
should begin the process with Academic Records and take written evidence
of the initiation of this process to the Financial Aids Office.
B. Academic renewal may be requested only once during a student's academic
career.
C. Courses completed prior to the awarding of a certificate, associate or
bachelor degree do not qualify for academic renewal.
D. The policy does not apply to graduate students or students pursuing a
second Bachelor's Degree.
E. All grades of "D+" or less which were earned six years or more prior to
the date of the petition will not be used in the computation of the
grade point average.
F. Courses whose grades are not used for grade point purposes cannot be
used in satisfying academic requirements.
G. Hours not used for grade point average purposes are also not used to
satisfy total and upper division credit hour requirements.
H. The Academic Renewal Policy will apply to all accredited institutions of
higher education the student has attended.
I. Only the calculation of a student's grade point average will be affected
by this policy.
J. Students who are suspended a third time will be required to remain out
of school for five years. Those who return after five years will be
required to complete 12 credit hours within two academic quarters, with
a 2.50 or better GPA in order to continue. If they are successful, the
Academic Renewal policy may be applied to their record if applicable,
and they will be allowed to continue for a subsequent term in good
academic standing.
II. PROCEDURE
A. The student may petition for academic renewal by obtaining an
application from the Records Office.
B. The properly completed application should be returned to the Records
Office.
C. If the petition for academic renewal is approved by the Records Office, the student will be so notified and the Records Office will recalculate the student's grade point average according to the guidelines of the policy above.
