POLICY

A. Security Police, 4040 Tyler Avenue, is designated as the central lost and found depository for the University.

B. The offices of the building supervisors will serve designated collection points for lost and found items. These offices will turn information and/or items collected over to the Security Police as follows:

1. When an item is turned in, a lost and found slip will be filled out -- original attached to item, second (pink) copy given as a receipt to finder and third (yellow) mailed immediately to Security Police.

2. Items should be turned over to Security as soon as possible, at least within seven days. Security Police should be called immediately if item has significant dollar value.

3. Lost items

Lost and found slips should also be made out for inquiring of items lost -- original and second copy mailed immediately to Security Police and the third copy retained by office where notification of lost item is reported.

C. Items not claimed within 60 days become the property of the finder except as specified in E below.

D. Items not claimed by the finder within 14 days after the 60-day period become the property of the University and will either be sold, auctioned or donated.

E. Items found by Weber State University employees become the property of the University.

F. University shall or will annually hold an auction for property unclaimed. Proceeds will be used to administer the lost and found program. Any proceeds remaining shall revert to the State of Utah, Department of the Treasury, Unclaimed Property Division.
