II. POLICY
A. The academic department is the standard unit for the organization of
instruction at the University. It concerns itself with the work and
subjects assigned to it. For purposes of administration, a department
or program is assigned to a college but may serve other colleges or
divisions.
B. A college or division is (1) an administrative organization of related departments or functions of departments, or (2) a unit of instruction and administration representing a recognized professional field. With the exceptions of the Division of Continuing Education, the Library and Student Services, principal instructional and administrative units are designated as colleges.
