Academic Support Centers and Programs (ASCP) offers an array of services
designed to meet the individual needs of WSU students. These services include
tutoring, testing centers, computer labs, and international academic support
programs.

Academic Support Centers and Programs (ASCP) offers an array of peer tutoring
services designed to meet the individual needs of WSU students. Tutoring focus
is on developmental and general education courses. Peer tutors are certified
through the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA). ASCP strives to
assist WSU students reach their academic goals by helping them become strong,
independent learners.

Supplemental Instruction (SI) provides opportunities for students to
participate in learning teams where they explore concepts and solve problems
through group discussion and interaction as directed by a student team leader
who has successfully completed the course. SI student leaders work in
collaboration with the course professor and SI coordinator.

Pre-college access and outreach programs that include K-16
partnerships and encourage underrepresented students who are traditionally
non-college bound to pursue and successfully complete a post-secondary
education that meets the mutual needs of the university, public school system
and community.

“Gateway
to Education” Partnership
Partnership with local community agencies, Ogden School District, and
Ogden-Weber Applied Technology College that provides an alliance for partners
who work collaboratively to increase college awareness, information
dissemination, and educational support services to parents and families with the
goal of high school completion, participation in post-secondary education, and
workforce development. The Family Empowerment Conference is a signature event
held annually in March.
College
Access and Transition Initiative
This committee includes university staff from Student Affairs, Enrollment
Services, and Academic Colleges who focus on developing a college access
approach that can effectively assist underrepresented students through the
enrollment process and create stronger connections through the first year at the
university. A major goal is creating a strong tracking process of enrollment and
retention for these student cohorts. Signature events include College Goal
Saturdays (February) and Transition Nights/Events (April-June).

College
mentors and advocates provide college-readiness and access opportunities for underrepresented youth
through mentorship, academic tutoring, advocacy, and on-campus activities. S2S serves secondary schools in Ogden School District,
as well as five target high schools in the Davis and Weber Districts to better prepare junior high
and high school students for a post-secondary education. Serving as a critical component, university
students receive the opportunity to have a rewarding job and acquire
professional and personal skills that will enhance their college education.

Educational Talent Search (ETS) is a federally-funded program that is designed
to help primarily underrepresented students who are low-income and first in
their family to attend and graduate from college. In partnership with Ben Lomond
and Ogden High Schools and Highland, Mound Fort and Mount Ogden Junior High
Schools, the program serves 600 students, grades 7-12 from five target
schools in the Ogden School District each year. Goals are to provide educational
support services that represent a real opportunity to complete high school,
enroll in a post-secondary program, and receive financial aid and/or a
scholarship. Services include:

GEAR UP
(Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a federal
partnership grant with the Ogden School District that serves approximately 900
students in the three Junior Highs--Mount Ogden, Highland, and Mound Fort--and
then advances into the high schools, Ben Lomond and Ogden, to provide college
readiness services to a cohort of students and then follows them from 7th through
12th grade. Program goals include increasing post-secondary preparation,
academic performance, high school graduation, post-secondary participation,
knowledge of post-secondary educational opportunities and financing, educational
expectations and activities, and preparation of secondary teachers and staff to
teach and serve students. Services include:

Student Support Services (SSS) provides opportunities for academic
development, assists students with basic college requirements, and motivates
students toward completion of their college degree. The goal of SSS is to
increase college retention and graduation rates of its participants and to help
students make the transition from one level of higher education to the next. The
program is only open to students who have been admitted to, or are enrolled at,
Weber State University.

Student
Affairs Technology manages WSU’s nine open student computer labs. These computer
labs are meant to serve the general needs of all enrolled WSU students. Lab
hours vary from lab to lab, but overall lab hours range from 6:30 a.m. to midnight and some
labs are open seven days a week.
