Supplemental Instruction (SI) provides opportunities for students to participate in learning teams where they explore concepts and solve problems through group discussion and interaction as directed by a student team leader who has successfully completed the course. SI student leaders work in collaboration with course professor and SI coordinator.
The Learning Assistance Program (LAP) is designed to increase the retention and graduation rates of low-income, developmental, and first generation college students. Students must apply and enrollment in LAP is limited to maintain an individualized approach. LAP coordinates the SmartStart Summer Bridge Program, which not only provides students with the opportunity to earn college credit but also prepares them for university study.
Services for eligible students include:
Since 2003, this program has been a pipeline partnership for Ogden City School District (OCSD) and Weber State University. Serving two middle schools (Mt. Ogden and Mound Fort) and two high schools (Ogden & Ben Lomond), Student-to-Student provides hands on interventions to students desiring to continue their education beyond high school. Students from the university act as mentors within the school and selected classrooms, encouraging students and assisting them with schoolwork and providing insight to college life and admissions. The program’s focus is college readiness, academic support, and parental involvement.
Educational Talent Search (ETS) College Bound is a federally-funded program that is designed to help primarily underrepresented students who are low-income, first in their family to attend and graduate from college. In partnership with Ben Lomond and Ogden high schools, Mound Fort and Mt. Ogden middle schools, we serve 600 students, grates 7-12 from our four target schools in the Ogden School District each year.
Services include academic advising, career and college planning, admission application assistance, financial aid/scholarship assistance, college entrance examination preparation, and referral to community resources.
The Federal Government, through the Department of Education under Title IV, funds the Student Support Service Program. Each student who is admitted into the program meets with an advisor. Together the student and the advisor explore the student’s academic needs and the resources available to develop an individualized system of support.
Veterans Upward Bound provides qualified veterans academic support services that assist them in developing the academic skills necessary to be successful in their post-secondary education experience.
