Athletic Training Major

BACHELOR DEGREE (B.S.)

The Department of Health Promotion and Human Performance offers an undergraduate program in athletic training.  This program prepares students for the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) examination.  It is currently, under formal procedures to be accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAAHEP).  It is specifically designed to prepare students for careers in athletic health care. The program will provide students with skills in the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic related injuries. Athletic trainers are employed in corporations, public schools, physical therapy clinics, universities, and professional organizations.

» Credit Hour Requirements: A total of 120 credit hours is required for graduation -- 48 of these are required to fulfill a major in Athletic Training; 40 semester hours must be upper division  (courses numbered 3000 and above) with 30 of these hours required within this major.
 
» Advisement:  Each student is assigned an academic advisor upon entering the athletic training program.  The advisor is available to the student for counseling on grades and progress toward graduation.  Athletic Training majors must meet with a faculty advisor at least once within the first two weeks of each semester.  It is the responsibility of the student to schedule the required meetings with the advisor.  Call 801-626-7425 for more information or to schedule an appointment.  (Also refer to the Department Advisor Referral List.)
 
» Program Prerequisites: Make application and be accepted to Weber State University. Apply with the HPHP department and formally declare a program of study with a faculty advisor. 
 
» Program Admission Requirements:  Athletic Training admission selections are made once per year at the end of the Fall term.  Students interested in transferring from another institution or from another major at Weber State University must meet University and College transfer requirements and complete the same requirements as freshmen in the Athletic Training Program.  Applications may be obtained from the Health Promotion and Human Performance Academic Advisor, Room SG 114.  Applications must be completed and on file by the 18th of November each year.  The Athletic Training Faculty reviews admission applications. Applicants are notified of faculty decision by mail.  Offers of admission into the athletic training major are presented on a competitive basis to those individuals who are most qualified.  Program candidates are notified of their impending interview for final selection into the program.  Candidates admitted will be notified by mail with clearance to begin athletic training clinical courses the spring semester.  A cumulative GPA of 2.50 or higher in all courses required for this major in order to advance.  Admission requirements include the following:
